Our Story

Vacation Bible Camp seeks to preach the good news of Jesus Christ and His wonderful grace to the unsaved and to encourage the believers' spiritual growth through daily lectures, classes, and recreational activities.

Vacation Bible Camp is held at Pine Valley Bible Conference Center, situated in the mountains above San Diego, CA.

The camp provides a rich and comfortable camping experience for all ages. It is a precious time of rejuvenation, both physically and spiritually. Comfortable, convenient facilities are available. Families and individuals are cordially invited to attend this valued time of fellowship around the Lord. We look forward to seeing you there!

Vacation Bible Camp is sponsored by Grace & Truth Chapel, Montebello.

Vacation Bible Camp began in Montebello, CA in the late 1950s as a weeklong gospel outreach for children.

Planning for the camp begins soon after the end of camp with a review of the last camp. Starting in January, monthly meetings are held through conference calls, and sometimes in the Montebello and Pasadena assemblies. These increase in frequency during the summer. Staff for the camp mainly comes from the western states although we have enjoyed having numerous helpers from afar.

The facility that we rent for the camp employs a regular staff to support the year-round functions of the camp. During the time we rent the facility we are responsible for the programming and schedule of the camp. To carry out this function we have volunteers from our fellowships who staff the various positions necessary to carry out the program at the camp. This includes the Director who has general oversight for the planning of the camp program and general oversight of the various Coordinators for each of the concurrent programs mentioned above. Prior to the beginning of the camp, the Director is responsible to ensure that the planning of the camp proceeds on schedule and that the various functions are adequately staffed and equipped to carry out those functions. During the camp, the Director's role shifts to one of support and general organization to ensure that the functioning of the camp proceeds as planned and that proper order is maintained.

Safety among all camp participants is a high priority. We, along with the regular camp staff, will stay abreast of any Homeland Security threat warning levels. Should an emergency arise which affects the entire camp, we along with the regular camp staff and local authorities will ensure that proper precautions are taken to provide for the security and well-being of all participants at the camp up to and including evacuation of the camp facilities if necessary.

History

Vacation Bible Camp began in Montebello, CA in the late 1950s as a weeklong gospel outreach for children. The gospel exercise has continued to be the main objective of the camp. Coupled with this effort is the growth and training of young and old Christians as we learn and work together to further the testimony to the Lord Jesus Christ.

Facilities in the nearby mountains were rented usually for one week, although some years there were two weeks of camp. Campers ages 8-18 were the main focus of this effort for many years. More recently the camp has included a family emphasis as well. Now there are four concurrent programs. Adults, Seniors (15-college), Juniors (12-14), and Youth (8-11, with some activities for 3-7 year olds also). A College & Career program is being developed. Lodges provide housing for families and staff. 12-bed Dorms for individuals 8 years - Adult. Capacity is about 300.

Statement of Faith

  • The scriptures of the Old and New Testament are verbally inspired of God and inerrant in the original writings, and they are the supreme and final authority in faith and life.

  • There is one God, eternally existing in three Persons: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.

  • Jesus Christ was begotten by the Holy Spirit, was born of the virgin Mary, was sinless, and is true God and true Man.

  • Man was created in the image of God; he sinned and thereby incurred not only physical death, but also spiritual death which is separation from God. All human beings are born with a sinful nature.

  • The Lord Jesus died for our sins according to the scriptures, as a substitutionary sacrifice, and all who believe in Him are justified by His shed blood.

  • The crucified body of our Lord Jesus was buried and He was resurrected. He ascended into Heaven, and lives there at God's right hand as our High Priest and Advocate.

  • All who repent of their sins and receive the Lord Jesus Christ by faith are born again of the Holy Spirit, and thereby become children of God and are made members of the one body, the true Church of Jesus Christ.

  • Our expectation is the personal and imminent return of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ to raise the dead in Christ and take them and us His living saints to heaven.

  • All the dead will be bodily resurrected in the resurrection of the just or of the unjust, resulting in the everlasting blessedness of the saved and the everlasting punishment of the lost.
